#107 – My First “Texting” Meeting

Sounds strange.  Am I right?

Well, it was.

I am the new Stake Primary President and I needed to talk with my presidency about a few things that the Stake Presidency needs to know very soon.  Each member of the Stake Primary Presidency lives quite far from one another and with traffic, limited transportation and busy work schedules, I thought I would give “texting” a try.

We used a free app, called WhatsApp.  We are all in a group chat and we agreed to have a meeting for a specific amount of time.  This way, we could all be where we needed to be and still have a meeting.  Yes, Skyping or a group call would have been best BUT . . . 2 of us do not speak the other person’s language, nor do we have the language skills to follow along by only a voice call.  So I felt that for this time, texting would be best.

It wasn’t the best meeting but it worked for what we needed to do.  No, we didn’t get done as much as I had hoped, I didn’t realize how much time it took to wait for each person to translate what was being said and then respond, but I don’t feel bad about it.  I feel like we made a few steps onto this new path we each are on and I feel like it will only get better from here on out.

At least from now on whenever I am TERRIFIED to have a Presidency meeting, I will remember how little we got done through the ease of typing, instead of making sacrifices of time, travel, language comfort, and busy schedules.  I think this was a positive lesson for us all.  We can only go up from here.

Thanks for listening,
