#229 – Our Favorite “HOT CHOCOLATE” Cake

Sorry for not being around much lately.  Our family is taking a MUCH NEEDED break from Homeschool.  That also includes a MUCH NEEDED break from technology.  I have gone as far as deleting Youtube from off of my phone.  I found that although I was “learning” I was also wasting time used to think, rest, read a fun book or just talk with my family.  So I guess my blog has also fallen into the technology category for now.  But not for long.

In the meantime, I have been thinking A LOT about our family’s new favorite “cold” cake recipe.  We are so happy that we found it again.  So much so, I had GingerSnap make it for a women’s meeting I had a few Sundays ago and I didn’t have a crumb left after the meeting.  That got me thinking about another family favorite chocolate cake that we love, but . . . it is best served piping HOT!

The first time I had this cake, made by my sweet mother-in-law, it literally tasted like EATING Hot Chocolate.  It is a moist, melt in your mouth, FULL of RICH, CHOCOLATEY flavor cake.  And with a dollop of whip cream on top and I can’t imagine a better dessert to serve to your family, especially while visiting the summer cabin, having people over for fireworks on a chilly night, or even on a camping trip.  I hope you enjoy it too!

Hershey’s Chocolate Cake

Whitchurch Family Cookbook

1 3/4 cup flour

2 cups sugar

3/4 cup cocoa

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

2 eggs

1 cup milk

1/2 cup oil

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 cup boiling water

Combine dry ingredients.  Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla.  Beat 2 minutes.  Stir in boiling water.  Bake at 350 degrees, in a greased 9 x 13 pan, for 35 – 40 minutes.  Serve hot with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.  Yum!
