Teaching Money Management

Today was an interesting day. I got to sit down with my youngest son and teach him how to correctly use a transaction register.

He thought it was a place to record ALL the money you have, whether in your wallet or in the “savings” account. We have our children use these registers to help them keep track of money they have received (usually birthday money or chore money) and then keep track of how they have spent it (usually through Dad or Mom’s credit card).

Today, Joy Boy was over $20 richer because he had made the mistake of starting over his register each time he received birthday money. He also miscalculated a couple deposits and withdrawals, but in the end, he came out richer and that made his day!

Now he is even MORE focused in doing “Mommy Chores”. What are those? That is a story for another night.

Happy Saturday,
