Q-Day #94 – Pico y Placa

I like the sound of this phrase.

Pico y Placa!!

In Costa Rica we are under Pico y Placa!! What does that mean? Well, in Google Translator it says it means “peak and plate.” But Paul explained that the term actually refers to peak (meaning the hour) and plate (which license plate).

This means we cannot drive through Costa Rica anytime that we please. The last number of our license plate determines when we are allowed on the road. Both of our license plates end with a 6, so we are restricted from driving on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

It was rough at first, but we are getting accustomed to it. But what a strange world it is right now. I wonder if this will be strange for my grandchildren to hear one day, or will it be normal for them?

Only time will tell.

Happy Saturday,

It is interesting for sure but maybe it will become more commonplace…in the Philippines my in-laws were restricted one day a week that they couldn’t drive and it also was based on their license plate. I can’t imagine the roads if they didn’t do that! It’s already insane!! Hang in there! ❤️
